The electrical contracting industry is a crucial part of the construction industry, and while there are many courses for electrical contractor roles, apprenticeships may be more appealing. In an apprenticeship, you get the opportunity to work on residential, commercial and industrial properties, and you’re earning money, getting experience and learning as you go.
It’s fair to say that the money is not great, but it’s a route into the electrical contractor working environment, and there’s a good chance you’ll land a job when you complete your apprenticeship. While there are plenty of technical skills you need to learn, you’ll also be able to build good working relationships with people, and work both individually and as part of a team.
In addition to the practical tasks, you may also have to complete reports, carry out admin work and read engineering drawings. Many successful contractors have developed successful careers, and an apprenticeship is a common starting point.
