With the number of appliances most people have nowadays, it can be difficult to know where the blame lies for high electricity bills. You really only have a couple of options in this situation; you can either buy a meter which measures your energy consumption in real time, or you can just focus on limiting your use of the appliances which are electricity hungry.
A meter is an effective tool, but to use it effectively can be a pretty onerous task. What you need to do is turn everything off (as a first step), and after everything’s off, turn on all of your appliances one by one. This will give a real idea of what electricity each of the appliances are using and then you can limit your use of those appliances or find more economical alternatives for them.
Another idea is to research energy consumption for your appliances. This can give you just as much information, although it can be quite time consuming too. Avoiding overusing your hair dryer, washing machine, air conditioning and heaters will give you a good head-start.
